CHARACTER NAME: Twisted Fate
CHARACTER AGE: 35
SERIES: League of Legends
CHRONOLOGY: Post-Burning Tides event.
CLASS: Roguish Hero
HOUSING: All I ask is that he is roomed with Jhin if they're accepted!
BACKGROUND:
Frankly, one of the few characters with a fulfilling background.
Runeterra is full of interesting places and people. Along the Serpentine River are the river folk, who are nomadic and travel along the river. They're a tribe of pacifists whose goods and services are of unquestionable quality, yet the river folk are rarely trusted by others for their ways. Among the people was a boy, Tobias Foxtrot, who often questioned why they never fought back against people who would bully or attack them, but he accepted it nonetheless.
Until the day came where men, angry that they lost their fortune to a card game, arrived to demand their money back and attacked his parents. Tobias fought back, using his inherent abilities with cards to strike them down. Though he was proud for standing up to them, Tobias realized too late that he broke his people's law. The boy was exiled, left behind by the river people, and he watched them leave without him.
Tobias spent the next several years learning to live on his own and how to use his abilities to survive with his cards. He learned how to steal, lie, and swindle his way across the continent.
One day, as a young man, he met a man during a card game, and they both revealed their hands: both of them had four aces, trying to cheat each other. The man was Malcolm Graves, and Tobias recognized a kindred soul with him. The two became partners, and for a long time they became best friends, traveling across the continent to steal and con together for the next ten years. Eventually, they even accumulated a crew of people.
There came a job that Graves found that Tobias was skeptical of: robbing Aregor Priggs, a powerful man who lived in the scientific and morally questionable city of Zaun. Graves could only see that they would have the biggest score of their lives, but Tobias, a man who prided himself on being impossible to capture, could see no way out of the situation if they were cornered. Graves insisted they go despite Tobias's concerns. Unfortunately, the job went south, and Tobias ordered the rest of the crew to escape. Graves was captured by Priggs and thrown into the torturous prison known as the Locker; Tobias and the crew did attempt to rescue him, but they failed, and the crew died in the attempt, leaving Tobias alive and alone.
Changed by the incident forever, Tobias returned his name to the Serpentine River, renaming himself Twisted Fate. For the next ten years, he traveled alone for the most part, hoarding riches to himself. Eventually, a job he took on in the pirate islands known as Bilgewater caused him to be cornered by his old partner who had managed to escape the Locker. Graves assumed the worst and thought he was sold out, and Twisted Fate knew he had too much of a temper to listen to the whole story and was determined to escape. The pair played cat and mouse for a time in Bilgewater until circumstances with the pirate gangs forced them to work together. It was at that point Twisted Fate was able to finally tell Graves the truth, earning the other man's forgiveness.
They escaped Bilgewater, and agreed to work together again, rekindling their friendship.
PERSONALITY:
There are a lot of things that people have said to describe Twisted Fate. That he's a cheat, a swindler, and will find a way to rob you blind and send you on your way with just your knickers if you agree to a card game with him.
Sometimes words are just rumors, but in Twisted Fate's case, they're pretty damned close to the truth.
As one of the most infamous thieves across the continent, it would be ridiculous of Twisted Fate to not be inclined to find ways of robbing people blind, and he does so in a multitude of different ways. Ever since he was a boy, Twisted Fate has developed his skills in using his wit to manipulate people, pulling their strings verbally like a puppeteer to either flatter them or rile them up. Either way, this makes it easier to trick them and play them into his hand, especially when he's convinced them to try their luck in playing a card game against him. When playing with Twisted Fate, no matter what he'll have found a way to stack the odds against you. As far as targets go for his card sharking, as it were, Twisted Fate has no interest in betting with a poor man, preferring to target the egotistical, the proud, and the rich. It's little with a matter of honor and more a matter of practicality. If a poor man can't pay him, then what's the point, after all?
Which brings a matter of his selfishness into play. As a boy, Twisted Fate was abandoned by his family, and henceforth grew up with the mindset of looking out purely for himself and protecting himself. This means trying to define Twisted Fate's intentions are difficult other than he benefits in some way by interacting with someone. The only thing he'll hide is what those benefits are, but he does unusually have a way of expressing that he is using you, yet convinces you to go along with it anyway. The world is not a nice place to play, and he plays along anyway, finding ways to make the rules bend and break to him. He has no qualms about approaching people with a confident swagger in his step, a smug smile on his face, always acting like he knows something you don't -- even if he may not actually know anything. There's no way for you to know that, is there?
This is not to say that Twisted Fate is incapable of loyalty to a person, but that it is exceptionally rare. He has laid out his loyalties specifically in very few scenarios, and it is important to mention the few times it has happened, so let's rewind back to a time in which Twisted Fate was still known as Tobias. The first had been his family, whom he had loved enough to break the rules of the river for by protecting them from furious outsiders. Unfortunately, this meant that by breaking the rules meant they were forced to exile him from the river people, leaving the boy to grow up on his own, which meant he had developed a sleight of hand, a crafty mind, and a silver tongue. The second person he'd ever felt any regard of loyalty for had been someone he felt a kinship with: the outlaw and cutthroat, Malcolm Graves. Both men met, after all, by cheating each other at cards, which amused both of them enough to agree to a partnership, which lasted ten years as they conned, swindled, and stole across the continent together, notorious as they robbed many. Unfortunately, their partnership only came to an end due to one fateful night: there was a job that Tobias expressed concern over, and felt that they did not have an assured escape plan, but Graves, stubborn as he always was and always will be, chose to ignore Tobias' warnings and pursued the heist anyway. When the job was going south, Tobias ordered their crew to back out and they were forced to abandon Graves, which caused the outlaw to be arrested and thrown into the infamous prison known as the Locker. Desperate to get his friend back, Tobias attempted to free him, which caused the remainder of their crew to be killed in the process. It's incredibly important to mention his relationship with Malcolm Graves, as the botched job affected Tobias enough for him to return home to put his name back into the river and changed it to Twisted Fate, trying to begin his life anew. Ten years later, Graves broke out of prison, enraged and assuming that Twisted Fate betrayed him. For a time, Graves chased Twisted Fate across the continent, determined to have his revenge and in turn Twisted Fate was determined to live, knowing that Graves would not listen to the truth. Eventually, the two have rekindled their friendship under strenuous circumstances -- and it is worth noting that Graves is his only true friend, and has almost died for him more than once.
Twisted Fate's third important relationship worth noting is Evelynn, an infamous assassin. The details of their relationship came in two sides: Evelynn found their relationship to be fun, whimsical, and enjoyable, but for Twisted Fate it was more romantic and devoted. In terms of romance, Twisted Fate was very poetic about it, and took the time to learn how to dance with Evelynn and described their tango as "the dance style that best expresses [their] relationship - [they] aren’t just dancing; [they're] competing with every step, dip, and spin." Their relationship was short lived, and Evelynn ended it, which was enough for Twisted Fate to attempt to drown his grief in drink. He is a romantic at heart and goes into a relationship with both feet in, so when it had ended as it did, he took it badly -- enough that the two are now considered rivals.
So, what to take away from Twisted Fate's perspective on loyalties, he keeps a short leash on this matter and doesn't devote much emotionally in many people, selecting who to place a certain amount of trust into. Everyone else can be considered game pieces to him, opportunities to utilize and benefit from. He is never above lying to people, even a friend, if it means he can gain something from it, or protect himself. Unless he has a strong relationship with a person, he will not hesitate to turn his back on them to keep himself safe.
And even if he were to remain in, say, a fight for someone he feels strongly for or is running from a fight to protect himself and his assets, Twisted Fate has a certain oddity about how he responds to situations. For example, keeping his appearances -- both emotionally and physically -- is insanely important to him. Ever since coming into money for himself, Twisted Fate has spent large amounts of it on himself and his own comforts. He has been described as a dandy, and has done his best to avoid blood in the streets to keep his boots clean, and expressed regret when he had to step into fish guts to escape his pursuers. He despises ruining his appearance, but if it's life or death, he will reluctantly go into a mess to survive an occasion.
All in all, Twisted Fate is an intelligent man, interested in his own assets and surviving. If it comes down to a perfect stranger or himself, he will almost certainly choose himself over anyone else, using his words and playing someone until he gets what he wants.
POWER:
Magic Cards - Canonically, Twisted Fate was born with magic in relation to cards. His people are usually fortune tellers, but Twisted Fate tells his own fortune these days. So long as Twisted Fate has access to a deck of any kind of cards, he can infuse them with magic and utilize them in a number of ways.
♠ Blue Card - If Twisted Fate draws what he's made into a magical blue card, he can use it as a powerful burst of magic offensively against an enemy.
♠ Red Card - When a red card is drawn and thrown, it will burst with a lasting burn against his target, making them sluggish for a brief period of time. The red cards have a flame quality to them.
♠ Gold Card - Once a gold card is thrown at an enemy, it will stun and freeze them in place for a few seconds.
Destiny/Gate - Twisted Fate's innate ability with fortune telling comes out with this skill. Using his skill he's called Destiny, it allows him true sight of anyone and anything within an immediate 600 foot radius. It's been described as giving him vision and the "promise of everything" around him, knowing their every move for this moment of time. After gaining vision, Twisted Fate can then transport himself within that 600 foot distance anywhere he'd like by using the Gate part of his skill. The only issue is that preparing himself to teleport requires concentration and at least one magically infused card. At this time, Twisted Fate cannot transport anyone but himself.
Loaded Dice - Any gaming piece or gambling-related items that Twisted Fate touches will bend to his favor. For example, if he's playing a game of Monopoly, the dice will be loaded and will benefit him every role. If he plays slots, he will almost always be guaranteed some kind of win.

Well, now. It's been a rough few nights, hasn't it? Nothin' is perfect, and hell knows most of us have enough on our plate. I'm not a judgmental man, but I know there comes a time a distraction is all that we need.
So here's a thought: we have ourselves a game night. Personally, I'm a fan of poker, but I know that's not everyone's preference.
That leaves me here, waitin' on you and some suggestions. I'm all ears, ladies and gentlemen.
LOGS POST (PROSE) SAMPLE:
In terms of thievery, these days Twisted Fate considers himself a man with a bit more finesse. It seems like people in this world are more the type to go in guns blazing and robbing a bank. He doesn't judge much -- he's pulled off hell of a caper himself by stealing from Piltover's strictest vault -- but it seems like there are few times in which they really succeed. There's no plan, no back-up plan, and no out for them.
That's bound to promise anyone to prison.
He'd caught wind of a couple of thieves who were planning on hitting this bank in particular. Down the street, Twisted Fate is sitting outside, enjoying his soy latte while he waits. As predicted, he hears an explosion, a cry of civilians, and someone shouting to call the police.
"Well now," Twisted Fate drawls, looking down at his pocket watch. "Let's give 'em a couple of minutes. I'm feelin' generous."
It'll give them the feeling of a confident victory, probably. But for Twisted Fate, it is an opportunity.
As the two minutes roll by, he finishes his latte and calmly stands up, strolling down the street in his typical confident swagger. He steps over some rubble, watching the pair start to load up their escape vehicle.
"My my, I'd never have thought of that," Twisted Fate says flatly, flicking out a red card towards one of the wheels. It bursts, the air deflating in a loud hiss.
Immediately, the pair are bringing out their pistols. It takes no time for him at all to throw out a pair of golden cards, stunning them. "Let's not get like this, gentlemen. Just sit tight until you're taken away, hm?"
Today, he can play the hero. It gives him time to get an insight on the bank, know its layout, and better understand the world.
Tomorrow? Tomorrow is another day.

In terms of romance, Twisted Fate was very poetic about it, and took the time to learn how to dance with Evelynn and described their tango as "the dance style that best expresses [their] relationship - [they] aren’t just dancing; [they're] competing with every step, dip, and spin."
